April 2007

As the warm weather sets in, many things are starting to happen in our Community.

The Landscape Department is removing many dead, partially dead, diseased and/or dense tree growth in all of our Neighborhoods.  Most of the trees are ARBS that were planted by the developer 30 years ago, as they were extremely cheap to use.  These trees have a life expectancy of 10-15 years, and, in some cases, have been obstructing proper lawn care and health.  Many provided some privacy for residents, and, throughout the Spring and Summer, landscape will begin systematically substituting, in most areas, other trees and bushes in their place.  Timeframes in this regard are impossible to predict due to staffing issues with the Landscape Department.

A new fence was installed around the Golf Maintenance Building and, compared to the old one, is a beautiful improvement and adds much to the looks of the area, from all sides. Preventative maintenance programs, for this fence and others, will be adhered to by Maintenance and Umbrella.

Pond muck cleaning is scheduled to begin on or about June 20th, and the next group of ponds will require muck collection bag placements in various areas of the Community, as it did last year.

Regarding our badge maker and scanner system, meetings were held with neighborhood representatives, Security and the company providing the control equipment to be installed.  The Purchase Order was issued for the badge maker and associated equipment needed to produce the badges, along with the initial equipment to be installed in StoneyBrook and the software that supports the operation.  Security will be learning, and then producing badges during May, and new security procedures will hopefully be in operation for StoneyBrook by Memorial Day, as scheduled.

A new squad car for Security and a new Dump truck should be delivered this coming week.

A Workman’s Compensation and Insurance review was just finished up by an outside verification firm, and all turned out well.  As with our liquor licenses (state and city), Basset training, permits, and requirements of insurance carriers, HeatherRidge conforms to required specifications and certifications.

During June and July, I will be completing information to file with the watershed project in an attempt to earn grant money to contribute to the care of our ponds.  No guarantees here, but we won’t know unless we try and apply.

As a point of information, the Maintenance Department is currently using the new, low-cost light bulbs whenever old ones burn out.  This will save us money over time, and should also be adopted for your own in-home use.  Saving energy will ultimately help all of us.  Additionally, the Maintenance Department has a proactive approach to replacing old, worn-out and weather-beaten signs throughout the community.

Finally, we should have our alternate spillway repair costs within the next week or so.

Have a great spring and always strive to help your community and keep it healthy.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Marcus, CMCA, AMS Community Manager
