July 2009

Your Board of Directors have been working very closely with our litigation attorney regarding our ongoing efforts to possibly recover monies collected by Lake County concerning incorrect labeling of our golf course area as non-open-space.  The Board should be reporting current status of this effort in their reports at the July HUA Board meeting.

Our Security Department has finally taken delivery of our new squad cruiser car, and it was a welcome sight after many months of waiting for GM to deliver.  Security has been working very hard in producing new pass cards for recreation centers and pool areas, and our new security system is working extremely well.  Additional improvements and tightening of security at the residential and recreational facilities are continuing to be explored and implemented.  Additionally, I again remind any resident observing unusual or worrisome activities of any kind to report them to the Security Officer and, if deemed appropriate, to the Gurnee Police Department.

HUA board members, along with myself, have been doing many property walks covering all areas of HeatherRidge common grounds and facilities. Residential board members were also invited to join us on these walks, and many things have been observed and noted for action throughout the community. We anticipate having these walks on a more frequent basis than in the past.  More detailed walks with our Maintenance and Landscaping Departments will also be scheduled.

Muck cleaning of the scheduled ponds in the Covered Bridge area has been completed, and the ponds look great.  Again, we ask patience in having to live with the accumulation bags as the muck dries for removal.  Please also know that there are SCUBA divers who enter the ponds to facilitate the cleaning, and they are not “creatures living in the water,” as has been reported by some residents to the HUA office.

A structural engineer has analyzed the Hidden Hills Recreation Center and they will be submitting a report of their findings shortly.  We have been trying to locate the actual blueprints of that building, and I have located them at the original architect’s office in Aurora, Colorado.  Meanwhile, the building is, at this point in time, safe to utilize.

Members of the Finance Committee and HUA Board have again met with banks in order to obtain updated loan proposals for road and infrastructure repairs, which should be voted on at the July meeting.  Additionally, bids are in and will be discussed by the Board concerning the asphalt paving companies and drainage repairs that go along with the new roads. This issue will be discussed as appropriate at the meeting.

New signage designs have been obtained and submitted by Cathy Hawkins and Jason Shamrock and will be voted on at July’s meeting, covering entrance and ad signs at the main entrance and at the Gages Lake Road entrance.  The painting of many existing signs is also being performed by the Maintenance Department throughout the property.

Congratulations to all of us, including our Landscape Department for their wonderful work and Cathy McGrath for her wonderful entry photos, in once again winning this year’s Gurnee-In-Bloom contest.  It all reminds us of what a beautiful Community this is, how lucky we are to have this, and how important it is, through community watch and concern, to maintain it.

Be sure to visit the wine tastings, dinners, and other programs going on at the CRF facility.

Finally, I would like to remind all HeatherRidge residents that non-golfers and dogs are not allowed on the golf course fairways, proper, and grounds. The golf course provides valuable, budgeted funds for this community, and stray dogs and casual onlookers are a threat and annoyance to having a tremendous golf patronage.

Have fun this summer, always stay safe, and enjoy the wonderful weather while we can.

Bob Marcus, CMCA, AMS Community Manager
