May 2009

The HUA via LaMarCo has finally finished the installation of almost all door and gate closures and communication systems between the security office and the doors and gates of all neighborhood recreation centers and pools. Finishing up the Cabana Pool system was delayed slightly due to the siding and wood work being done to that building, but things should be fine for the opening of the pools during the Memorial Day weekend. Residents have been responding in securing their new pass cards, and hopefully we now have more secure and controllable neighborhood facilities.

The cement deck at the C/B pool has been repaired, and an awning at the shallow end of the pool deck has also been installed at that facility. The wooden stairs and upper deck at that facility will also be painted or stained shortly.

We are currently evaluating some ceiling beam structure work that may need to be reinforced at the Hidden Hills Clubhouse, and any necessary work will be performed as soon as evaluation reports are received from inspectors. There is also substantial wood rot on the sides of the HH Rec center bldg, which may be contributing to structural issues.

Additionally, Joan Karkow, neighborhood Chair of the HH area, is meeting with the carpeting people regarding installation problems at that recreation facility bldg.

Windscreens and nets have been installed at the tennis courts as general and league play use begins. At least one net has to be replaced as it has deteriorated beyond use.

Health insurance changeover has been completed for all employees wishing to participate in that program, and the new coverage takes effect, with Humana, on June 1, 2009.

Our new squad car cruiser for the Security Department was suppose to be here on the 20th, but is running late. Meanwhile, the current squad is beginning to have problems and is in the shop for warranty repairs.

Brad Banwart, our Landscaping Department Head, has his crew working on normal landscaping tasks along with the restoration / removal / planting of some trees, bushes and flowers around the community. The organic sediment removal people will also be starting shortly on the next group of ponds to be cleaned.

Jason Shamrock and our Maintenance crew are busily working on the cleanup and startup work necessary for the pool openings, and we have also hired a pool person to care for the pools on a six day per week basis. There have been a few glitches with the furnace heaters this year, but they are 1985 vintage and may need some overhauling and/or maintenance work, including the possibility of them having to be replaced. Work has also been started on the restoration of the retaining wall at the Chase Court pond. Several drainage issues are also being addressed.

Cathy Hawkins, our CRF Director is still working with Jason and Signs Now for new signage at both the Gages Lake Road and Rt. 21 entrances. These signs will serve both the CRF and Golf activities and part of the renovation will be performed in house by our maintenance crew.

Finally, I want to extend my sincere personal thanks to Carol Marker, who recently resigned from HUA Board and Committee activities, for her tireless and dedicated work as a volunteer to this Community. I wish her the best in her future endeavors both here and elsewhere.

Have fun and be safe this summer, and please support and attend your Community functions.

Bob Marcus, CMCA, AMS Community Manager
