November 2009
The Hidden Hills Rec Center ceiling beam has been shored up and repaired this week, and should be in good condition for some time (years) to come. However, the problem concerning general structure issues with that building must still be addressed via engineering company bids and proposals. There are issues with the footings and deterioration of some wood areas, along with wood rot, which needs an evaluation and plan for restoration and repair. We are currently seeking proposals from engineers to provide the guidelines and suggestions for further repairs to this building.
A new, replacement sign has been ordered for the Cambridge area. It’s to be an identical replacement for the one that was totally demolished by a motorist several weeks ago. Insurance claims are being made to the motorist to pay for the damage. Also, replacement carpeting was installed in the accountant’s office within the HUA office building.
The Village has been notified that there are some areas of Village owned streets in HeatherRidge that have pots holes and need filling. I was assured that this will be taken care of shortly. Additionally, the Village was informed that there are several lights out along Heather Ridge Drive in The Woods area, and those, too, will be repaired.
Our auditors are finishing up with the 2008 audit, and they will be having a meeting with us to discuss the final audit figures sometime around the second week of December.
Bids have been received for various security camera, surveillance and recording systems, and they have been referred back to both Security and the Security Committee for further direction in this regard. Relative to this, it should also be noted that wanton vandalism continues to occur relative to the lampposts in the StoneyBrook area. Additional HUA and Gurnee patrols are occurring in these areas, and community watch efforts should increase here as well. It should be mentioned that several vehicles were broken into and burglarized in the Fairway Ridge area, so be sure to keep your vehicle locked and do not store anything of value within your vehicle. Burglaries tend to increase in number during down economic times, and a careful watch should always be made when it comes to our property and actions. Please report any suspicious activity immediately to our Security Department and/or Gurnee Police.
Several instances of incomplete Declarations and By-laws, for HUA and some of our copies for the residential associations, have been noticed during rules and procedure cross-referencing. I’ve asked each residential homeowner association to provide a current, recorded copy of their complete Declarations and By-laws to the HUA office as soon as possible.
A vendor has been selected as a replacement snow shoveler, and that selection will be ratified at the November meeting. Contracts for tree and aquatic treatment programs may also be discussed.
Maintenance and Landscaping departments are busy painting, draining and cleaning the hot tub, checking lamps, testing plow equipment, salt spreaders, etc., and mounting them on selected vehicles. We know the snow is coming … and we’re ready! General fall cleanup is also continuing.
Our CRF has several wonderful events planned for the holiday season, so be sure to attend and support them.
As we approach the holidays, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the HUA and all of our community for allowing me to be your HUA Community Manager this past year, and I wish to all of us a happy, healthy, prosperous and safe 2010. Peace and good wishes to all.Bob Marcus, CMCA, AMS Community Manager
